We’re excited to share that the new, web-only Referrals platform is now available!
What to Expect
Cutover: As of September 16, the installed application you currently use is no longer supported. While it may temporarily remain accessible, it will stop functioning by the end of September.
Seamless Access: All referrals and activity will remain available in the online version.
Get Started Now: Begin using the web version immediately so your team is comfortable before the cutover.
MiHIN and Holon are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition. We are grateful for our beta testers and for your patience, flexibility, and continued trust as we move forward together.
September 2025 Highlights
Making Student Immunization Records Easier to Access
MiHIN is helping simplify how families access student immunization records through a new feature in their school’s student portal. With one click, a legal guardian can trigger a message to MiHIN requesting the immunization information needed. MiHIN then securely routes the request to MCIR, which responds with the student’s vaccination record. The vaccination record is sent back through MiHIN and delivered to the student portal for immediate review and printing.
This process eliminates the need to contact a provider, pay for records, or wait several days for access. Guardians can immediately print the record for school sports, summer camps, or the first day of school, and see if their student is overdue – or nearing overdue – for any vaccines.
MCIR Onboarding Freeze Dates Announced
The Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) has released its formal announcement regarding onboarding freeze dates to support their modernization migration.
As part of the transition to the new STC|ONE immunization information system, all HL7 onboarding activities will be paused beginning October 1, 2025. This temporary freeze is designed to ensure a smooth migration to the updated platform.
Key details include:
Sites currently in the onboarding queue must complete MiHIN paperwork, connectivity setup, testing, and data quality review in the legacy MCIR environment by September 30, 2025.
Beginning October 1, 2025, pending and new HL7 registrations will be tracked but will not proceed to testing or production until after the new system launches.
HL7 onboarding is expected to resume in early April 2026, following the successful rollout of STC|ONE.
MiHIN is upgrading Diretto, our Direct Secure Messaging (DSM) application, to align with updated DirectTrust requirements. Diretto is a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted email platform that enables providers, payers, and other healthcare organizations to securely exchange protected health information.
What’s New? The upgrade introduces access to the DirectTrust National Provider Directory, allowing users to search for secure email contacts nationwide by provider name, National Provider Identifier (NPI), city, or state. This enhancement makes it easier than ever to connect and share information securely across the country.
Updated Onboarding Form To support these changes, MiHIN’s onboarding form has been revised with a few new required fields, including:
Primary Service Type offered at the geographic address
Organization NPI
Name of Organization
Organization City
Organization Specialty Code (NUCC Code)
These updates ensure that Diretto users are included in the national directory and can take full advantage of the new search functionality.
MIGateway® Update
MiHIN has updated Health Directory organization data, which affects organization names in MIGateway Transitions of Care (TOC) Viewer, Manage Active Care Relationship Service (ACRS)®, and Patient Viewer, as well as facility classifications in TOC Viewer.
Organization names were revised to reflect current “doing business as” names and improve formatting consistency. Please note that names and types may change based on ongoing ACRS Delivery Preference file submissions, which updates the Health Directory in real time.
Continued collaboration from Michigan Integrated Technology Platform (MITP) data contributors is essential to keeping organization information current. If you notice an organization name that needs updating or have questions about MIGateway data, please contact the MiHIN Help Desk.
Tobacco Free: Streamlining Referrals for Better Care
Did you know providers can refer patients to the Michigan Tobacco Quitlink directly through their Electronic Health Record (EHR) using MiHIN’s eReferral program?
Through MiHIN’s eReferral program, providers can:
Send one-click referrals directly within their workflow
Receive progress updates on each patient’s quit journey
Ensure HIPAA-compliant, accurate communication
Make tobacco cessation a seamless part of routine care
Here’s how it works: when a patient discusses tobacco cessation with their provider, a visit summary (C-CDA) is securely sent through MiHIN to Quitlink’s case management system. Progress notes are then returned to the provider, keeping care teams connected and informed. Quitlink offers free coaching, nicotine replacement therapy, and tailored support, with some of the highest quit rates in the nation. Together, we’re making it easier for Michigan residents to live tobacco-free.
