MiHIN Receives Governance Gold Medalist Community Excellence Award at Civitas Networks for Health 2024 Annual Conference

MiHIN was awarded the Governance Gold Medalist Community Excellence Award at the Civitas Networks for Health 2024 Conference. This award recognized MiHIN's leadership in building inclusive, transparent governance models for health data sharing across sectors.

Enabling the exchange of electronic health information requires consensus among multiple stakeholders, often necessitating complex technical and policy decisions. MiHIN has established a comprehensive governance framework that fosters consensus, accountability, and innovation.

The organization’s shared governance model includes partnerships with State Agency Partners, the State of Michigan Health Information Technology Commission (HITC), the MiHIN Board of Directors, the Executive Leadership Team, and the MiHIN Operational Advisory Committee (MOAC), along with its specialized task forces. MiHIN’s governance framework has been instrumental in advancing health data sharing across sectors, which in turn has driven significant improvements in care coordination, health equity, and population health management.

MiHIN Referrals Update

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing your experience, our focus remains on delivering a smoother, more reliable platform while helping you discover new ways to optimize the closed-loop referral process within the network.

We are excited to announce that, beginning the week of October 28, we’ll be rolling out the Analytics Dashboard to each organization’s Primary Contact, including providing a User Guide with detailed instructions. This dashboard provides detailed insights into all referral-related activity within the platform. It includes separate tabs that track and analyze key performance indicators across user activity.

Upon initial roll out, sending organizations will have access to both the usage details and referrals tabs, while receiving organizations will have access only to the usage details tab. Additional enhancements for receiving organizations will be forthcoming.

ASTP released the 2024 Draft Federal FHIR® Action Plan, outlining federal agency uses of the HL7® FHIR® standard to improve care coordination and expand health information access.

The plan aims to create an ecosystem of innovation by standardizing FHIR usage across government sectors, helping integrate data across patients, providers, payers, and researchers. It focuses on six areas: Core, Network, Payment/Health Quality, Care Delivery, Public Health, and Research, highlighting mature and developing FHIR-based implementations. Public feedback is invited until November 25, and the plan will be updated regularly to reflect advancements in FHIR standards.

Cloudticity Helps MiHIN Use AWS to Become an Innovator in Patient-Centered Healthcare

(from aws.amazon.com)

To enhance its capabilities, MiHIN partnered with AWS Partner Cloudticity to migrate its critical workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and modernize its technology stack. The platform now seamlessly handles the exchange of information for more than 13 million patients, processes approximately 99 percent of all Michigan hospital admissions, and ingests information from a staggering 17 million data points weekly.

Relying on Cloudticity Oxygen and AWS, MiHIN has streamlined HIPAA compliance and can more confidently demonstrate that compliance to customers. The AWS and Cloudticity environment also gives MiHIN more agility, which has led to a business model transformation.  As a result, MiHIN is evolving from a traditional HIE into a healthcare innovator investing in organizations such as the Interoperability Institute, a nonprofit focused on accelerating national interoperability.

ITP Update

Thank you for your ongoing collaboration and feedback throughout the transition to the MiHIN Integrated Technology Platform (ITP). Based on the valuable input we have received from participants and the current state of validation and testing, we have made the decision to extend the deadline for the VIPR decommissioning to December 31.

During this extended period, we will continue to provide regular updates and schedule individual validation sessions to help your team prepare for the cut-off. We remain committed to ensuring a smooth and successful migration, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these final stages.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Help Desk or to your network representative.
