Referrals (1)-1

MiHIN Referrals

A Referral Is Not Complete Until the Loop Is Closed

MiHIN Referrals was built to create true closed-loop referrals across Michigan’s healthcare network.

A referral is not complete when it is sent. It is complete when the patient is seen and the receiving office closes the referral. That final step matters.

Without it, providers are left asking:

  • Was the appointment scheduled?

  • Did the patient receive care?

  • Was follow-up completed?

  • Did the patient fall through the cracks?

When receiving organizations complete referrals after the patient visit:

  • Referring providers gain visibility
  • Care teams improve coordination
  • Staff spend less time chasing updates
  • Organizations strengthen quality and value-based care efforts

Every completed referral helps ensure patients get the care they need without unnecessary gaps or delays.

Already participating in MiHIN Referrals? Thank you for closing the loop and helping strengthen Michigan’s connected care ecosystem!

May 2026 Highlights

LR Update

MiHIN is pleased to share that an enhancement to the Patient Viewer within MIGateway® was deployed. The Patient Viewer will once again display the complete care team list for patients.

Access to complete care team information is essential for coordinating patient care effectively. This fix ensures that you can view all members of a patient's care team directly within the Patient Viewer, supporting better care coordination and communication across your network.

If you'd like to receive future communications about enhancements, downtimes, and other technical updates, sign up to receive Maintenance Window and Downtime Communications using this form.

Help Desk

Need support from the MiHIN Help Desk? Using our Help Desk Portal is the fastest and most efficient way to get assistance.

Submitting a ticket through the Portal helps our team collect the right details up front so we can route your request quickly, reduce back-and-forth communication, and resolve issues faster.

First-time users can set up an account in just a few minutes, and once logged in, you’ll be able to track requests in real time and receive updates automatically.

If you’re unsure which request category applies, simply submit your ticket and we’ll route it appropriately.

MCIR (2)

Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) Modernization Update

While we previously announced that MCIR's new system would officially launch on June 15th, MCIR has requested that technical onboarding for both Immunizations (HL7 VXU) and Immunization History-Forecast (QBP) be postponed until sometime after July 15th.

Once the MiHIN team receives confirmation on when onboarding can resume, we will share the updated onboarding go-live date with you.

To stay up to date on MCIR's modernization efforts, please refer to their website here.

ACRS

Care teams need timely access to patient information, especially when workflows don’t always allow for pre-established relationships or perfectly timed file submissions.

That’s where ACRS® CareLink comes in. Available within MIGateway® Patient Viewer, ACRS CareLink helps organizations:

  • Search patients across MiHIN’s enterprise Master Patient Index (eMPI)

  • Create active care relationships in real time to quickly access longitudinal patient data

  • Fill gaps between monthly file submissions

  • Support public health and care coordination workflows more efficiently

By helping the right data reach the right people at the right time, ACRS® CareLink supports more informed decision-making while reducing workflow friction for healthcare and public health teams. To enable ACRS CareLink for your organization, your administrator can submit a Help Desk ticket.
