Medication reconciliation remains an important but challenging component of healthcare. In Michigan, the fragmented healthcare ecosystem often leaves care providers without access to a complete and accurate list of their patients’ medications.
To tackle these challenges, MiHIN held a three-part workshop series in early 2024. These sessions included over 60 healthcare professionals from various sectors, such as pharmacists, health IT experts, and policy makers, to explore solutions.
From these discussions, a clear need for a centralized solution emerged, concluding in the development of the Med Rx Hub. This platform aims to serve as a “single source of truth” for medication information, aggregating data from providers and pharmacies to create a comprehensive and accessible repository.
After thorough consideration, we have made the decision to extend the decommissioning of VIPR. While March 31 was our target, our teams continue to make critical progress on data mappings, data loading, and confirming interfaces are functioning accurately in the Integrated Technology Platform.
We will not decommission VIPR, the longitudinal record historically provided by MiHIN, until access to MITP MIGateway® and the integrated Longitudinal Record Viewer is operational. Users will have the necessary time and resources, including a User Guide and Training Videos, to familiarize themselves with the new system before VIPR decommissioning.

On February 6, MiHIN hosted the second of two webinars on "The Power of Health Information Exchange for Skilled Nursing Facilities."
This session was a technical deep dive into the "what" and "how" of HIE for SNFs. We discussed ADT notifications, BCBSM Pay-for-Performance compliance requirements, technical aspects of data quality, and more.
Join Dr. Tim Pletcher, Executive Director, at the HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition for an insightful discussion on the power of Health Information Exchange (HIE) in scaling clinical decision support. Tim will be joined by industry leaders, including Chris Wroe, Rob Reynolds and moderator Blackford Middleton, to explore how advanced data-sharing strategies are transforming decision-making in healthcare.
Together, the panel will discuss the critical role of HIE in delivering comprehensive, real-time clinical insights, the integration of computable biomedical evidence into clinical workflows, and how these innovations drive more precise, data-driven patient care.
