Strengthening Public Health with Electronic Case Reporting (eCR)

MiHIN’s Electronic Case Reporting (eCR) Use Case enables clinicians to automatically and securely send reportable disease information directly from their EHR to public health - eliminating manual processes and improving timeliness and accuracy.

From birth defects and overdoses to environmental and chronic conditions, eCR supports comprehensive reporting across all reportable conditions. With infectious diseases driving more than 10.2 million physician visits and 4.7 million emergency department visits annually in the U.S., timely reporting makes a meaningful difference.

With MiHIN’s eCR:

  • Clinicians meet statutory reporting requirements automatically

  • Local public health agencies receive more timely, accurate data

  • Manual faxing, phone calls, and duplicate entry are reduced
  • Surveillance and response efforts are strengthened

  • Data remains within Michigan's trusted health information infrastructure, supporting comprehensive statewide surveillance and response

By participating in MiHIN’s eCR Use Case, organizations can simplify CMS Promoting Interoperability compliance, reduce administrative burden, and strengthen disease surveillance efforts across Michigan.

Apprentices

Congratulations Apprentices

We’re proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our Software Engineering Apprentices, who have completed a year-long apprenticeship with MiHIN this month.

Over the past year, these apprentices worked alongside with our DevOps team, gaining hands-on experience with real-world health IT systems. Their work made a real impact, from tagging AWS cloud resources to helping stabilize a new DevOps team and supporting day-to-day operations. By working within agile software development practices, they built strong technical skills and practical experience in the health information technology space.

We’re grateful for their dedication, curiosity, and the value they brought to our teams. The Apprenticeship Program reflects MiHIN’s commitment to workforce development, tech talent growth, and creating meaningful pathways into healthcare technology careers.

Congratulations to our apprentices on reaching this milestone. We’re excited to see what’s next for you and proud to have been part of your journey.

MiHIN Testimonial

Medical Information Gateway (MIGateway®)

As healthcare continues to evolve, access to timely and complete patient information is critical for coordinated care and improved outcomes. MIGateway provides a centralized, secure platform where organizations can view patient records from across Michigan’s statewide health information network. By bringing together data from multiple electronic health record systems, MIGateway gives care teams visibility into transitions of care, lab results, allergies, encounter histories, and more - all in one place.

Users across the care continuum are already seeing the impact. Kathryn, an EMS Administrator with Traverse City Fire Department, shared how MIGateway has transformed EMS data access and strengthened outcomes in her work.

If your organization is looking to reduce data friction and enhance care coordination, MIGateway is worth exploring. To learn more or schedule a demo, contact our Network Growth team.

MIGateway User Retention (1)

Reminder: MIGateway® User Retention Policy

This is a friendly reminder to all network participants regarding the MIGateway User Retention Policy.

MIGateway accounts that are inactive (no log in) will receive warning emails at 75, 85, and 90 days of inactivity. These notifications prompt the user to log in to prevent password expiration and potential account deactivation. If the account remains inactive for 100 consecutive days, it will be flagged for deactivation and deletion.

The user will receive a 100‑Day Deactivation and Deletion Notification Email, and their account will be deactivated and deleted.

If access needs to be restored, an organization administrator must submit a ticket with Network Growth. Alternatively, you may use this link to initiate the request after you have signed into your Jira account.
