MiHIN's Integrated Technology Platform (ITP) Migration Update

We are pleased to announce a major milestone in our ongoing Integrated Technology Platform (ITP) migration efforts. As part of our strategic commitment to future-proofing our infrastructure, we will be decommissioning our legacy platform (VIPR, Inbox, Solution Center) on Saturday, May 31 and migrating to our new MIGateway® platform.

This modern technology platform provides a secure, interoperable, and sustainable infrastructure that empowers providers, payers, and partners to exchange health information more effectively than ever before.

Users will be provisioned access to the new platform between May 5 and May 20, with the network access going live and modules available on May 21. To support you during this transition, we are offering a variety of resources, including live trainings, user guides, on-demand training videos, and FAQs available on our website.

We are excited about the enhanced capabilities this new platform brings to our network and look forward to partnering with you as we enter this next phase of innovation and growth.

Data Solution Enhancement - Death Notifications Use Case

Timely and accurate death notifications can help prevent challenges like unnecessary or wasteful spending, falsified insurance claims, and the continued dispensation of prescriptions to deceased individuals.

Through MiHIN’s Death Notifications Use Case, electronic death notifications flow from Michigan’s Electronic Death Reporting System (EDRS) through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Data Hub through MiHIN to care teams.

After receiving feedback from care teams, MiHIN is excited to announce it is evolving its delivery model to include routing of a human-readable ADT, with the raw HL7® ADT attached and including the patient’s date of death.

Michigan HIE Developing Medication Reconciliation Hub
(from: www.hcinnovationgroup.com)

Medication reconciliation is a key challenge in healthcare, but MiHIN is paving the way with the development of the Med Rx Hub. This new platform will streamline access to accurate medication data, reducing errors and improving patient safety.

As we prepare to launch our pilot program in September 2025, we're thrilled to share an interview from last week where we discuss the vision behind this solution and its potential impact on healthcare in Michigan. Check out the full article to learn more about our work in transforming medication reconciliation across the state.

New Functionality Alert -

Directed Delivery

To maximize data volume, value, and impact of the QMI use case for both senders and receivers, MiHIN has recently deployed new functionality called Directed Delivery.

This enhancement involves routing APS records to payer recipients based on Field #86 (PAYER_OID), in addition to traditional ACRS-based patient matching. A valid OID of a payer set up as an eligible participant of the QMI use case must be populated in Field 86 for Directed Delivery mechanism to take effect.

Field 86 and the Directed Delivery mechanism is voluntary and optional. No action is required by the submitter nor MiHIN staff to activate this functionality for your organization beyond the sender beginning to populate Field 86.

As part of our ongoing commitment to data sovereignty and the protection of electronic protected health information (ePHI), we would like to remind all members of our network of a critical component of our security infrastructure.

To ensure full compliance with federal and state regulations, we employ geofencing technology that prohibits the international transfer of ePHI. This means that all ePHI exchanged within our network remains within U.S. borders and cannot be accessed, transmitted, or stored outside the country.

We appreciate your continued partnership and your shared dedication to maintaining the highest standards in healthcare data governance.
